Summer Shopping Mall to enhance shopping experience

Oct 25, 2010

KUCHING: When Summer Shopping Mall commences business after its completion in 2012, it will help to enhance the shopping experience for both local residents and tourists.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced exemption of import taxes for over 300 items in the Budget 2011 and this will have a positive impact on the growth of business opportunities.

Consumers can purchase imported goods, including branded goods, at lower prices. This will encourage and attract tourists to shop here, thus stimulating our nation’s related industries such as tourism, hotel, food, transport and other services. Businesses in Kuching and Samarahan Divisions will be able to cater to the influx of tourists from Indonesia while Limbang and Miri will be able to attract shoppers from Brunei,” said Deputy Minister of Works Dato’ Yong Khoon Seng when he officiated at the soft launching of the Summer Shopping Mall here yesterday.

“With the reduction of import taxes, our prices will be lower and this will make it even more attractive for tourists from foreign countries to come and shop here. I hope entrepreneurs will seize these opportunities to develop their businesses, offer the best services and build an environment most conducive to shoppers such as the Summer Shopping Mall,” Yong concluded.
